A collaboration with artist and friend Jo Dacombe, based on poems from the zine IMMINENT which were woven into a meditation considering the concept of emerging into the light after a period of darkness.
in the depths of winter people were invited to an intimate live poetry reading and meditation
people gathered on a february evening and sit cocooned in the gallery space at Leicester Print Workshop
a few artists that use the space, a few friends, and some newcomers to the place.
the lights were dimmed and we sank into the dark
we align with our inner energies, the rhythm and cycles of the seasons, celestial orbits, the cycles of breath through our bodies.
we sit in a circle, embodying the cyclical nature of all energies
after the meditation we reflect on our experience through drawing.
we rise and take warming herb teas for dreaming or energising as we emerge and re-connect.
we leave with a lightness. a creative spark that we hold as we walk towards spring.
Fellow artist and friend Jo Dacombe included the image 'EMERGE' (from my Garden Mudras series), in the Nov 2023 edition of IMMINENT. The zine is produced using recycled paper and plant based inks, printed through a riso printer running on sustainable energy sources. Imminent is a collection of words and images by contemporary creative writers and artists around the UK, edited by Jo, with whom I share the sentiment that the physical object has an agency which we often miss in these times of digital consumption. Jo's concept behind the zine is that "The zine will not exist online, because it needs to be a material thing. I believe that the experience of holding something in your hand that is tangible and has been produced from the world, and considering how that thing came to be, as well as our relationship with it, is part of the environmental connection that we need to renew in our current times.".
