The multi-sensory experience of spending time in a natural environment is a detox for the mind, and antidote for the synthetic tech-driven environments we inhabit. However you might feel when you set off for a walk, on returning you will find your mind to be calmer and clearer and your senses alert. Walking is a form of meditation, to meditate is to reflect, when the water is still and calm we can see a clear image, when the waters are disturbed the image becomes distorted, and so it is with the mind, we aim to make the mind still in order to perceive ourselves clearly.
I have taken images of reflections on water whilst walking in the wilderness, and then expressed these through the technique of solar-plate etchings, creating handmade prints. [Solar-plate printmaking is a form of non-toxic printmaking and so it does not use or release any toxins into the environment].
I took the photographs whilst walking in the river Bargod, in the village of Dryfelin, Carmarthenshire, Wales during an artist residency at the Melin Glonc, an artist run disused corn mill and it's surrounding grounds.
