Fellow nature lover and artist Usha Mahenthiralingam invited me to submit a film for the Roots & Reels Ecology Film Festival which she has curated with Raffa of Mammoth - a climate action cinema in Nottingham. Although I don't work in film, i do document my work in film occasionally. One such film was recording an installation I created at the 'Being Wild' artist camp held in Charnwood Forest in the summer of 2023. It was a windy summer day, dry, hot and dreamlike. We'd tie-dyed muslin cloth with dyes made from local soils, and i'd tied mine in the trees to dry and and was mesmerised watching the play of sun, wind, shadow and tree in a hypnotic dance. I recorded the experience for a few minutes. I share it to bring attention to the power of nature, but also the playfulness.
This installation video has been selected as part of the Roots and Reels festival programme. The festival includes a diverse range of films by many local Nottingham artists. You can see the line up here.
